The APRICO concept is advanced, but simple, and designed to maximize the period in which the viewer is directly engaged in consuming content. Instead of asking consumers to manually navigate through an increasingly vast range of content options, APRICO adds intelligence to the search and selection process based on what the system knows about individual users. It knows for instance, when the user likes to watch a particular series, which episodes they have already watched and which of the available sources have previously been accessed. Using that data, and a host of other variables, appropriate content is located amongst the available sources and presented in a single unified format.
Whether APRICO is implemented to optimize VoD services, to create a user-centric EPG, or to seamlessly unite traditional broadcast and Web based content, the same core principles apply.
APRICO starts to tailor services immediately, and without the user having to actively set any preferences. Content is identified and delivered based on what the user (or group of users) has previously watched. The recommendations become increasingly accurate as APRICO learns automatically via user interactions and takes account of specific preferences.
